MUSIC!!!!!!!

Got the internetz hooked up, finally. For the past three months I've been listening to an Atmosphere CD that my friend Jimmy burned me, and a compilation I got at the door at an indie rock show in Seoul, and the 20 songs I had on my shitty mp3 player that were there before I left Canada. Over the past 24 hours, I've downloaded every song by the Beatles, the Stooges, the Velvet Underground, Bowie, the Flaming Lips, and lots, lots, lots more. It's the happiest I've been since I got here.

I got a cheap X-Box, and a few controllers, and I've been playing Halo-2 with Jimmy and Greg a lot. It's cheap entertainment--I'm saving for Thailand and for a digital camera. I'd like to get a nice one; Greg's new Panasonic Lumex is pretty nice, but I'll probably get something cheaper, and get a real snazzy one when I'm not suffering under the crushing burden of student loans.

Leave download suggestions in comments, if you'd like.

Yo,

Glad to hear that you're read for some high-grade music theft. Here are some sugestions (keeping in mind that I'm old and so not 'with it')"
TV on the Radio. Their new one ('Return to Cookie Mountain') and their older one ('Desperate Youth, Bloodthirsty Babes') are both excellent, the new one being better, I think.

If you're in the mood for misogynistic, materialistic, violent hip hop that glamourizes coke-dealing, the the Clipse's new "Hell Hath No Fury" is for you. Despite (or because of) it's pure evilness, it's pretty good. Production by the Neptunes, who are geniuses when no snorting coke of Justin Timberlake's ass.

The Junior Boys' "So This is Goodbye" is pretty nice. And from your nexk of the woods, I think.

The Decemberists' new one is overrated, but hey, nothing sucks when it's free. Worth a listen anyway.

OK, more to follow when I get more ideas.

Hope Korea is Korea-ific. And enjoy Thailand. But don't get VD.

'Sup PhD Matt,

I plan on steering clear of the sex industry whilst in Thailand, although from what I hear it's sort of hard to do, as even the police will turn tricks if you throw enough American dollars at them. I guess the trick is, don't pay for sex, ever, especially in countries that have HIV infection rates approaching those of sub-Saharan Africa, if not already exceeding them.

I will definitely check out Clipse and the Junior Boys. I agree that the Decemberists are overrated (although check out their video for 16 Military Brides on Youtube), and I've already got TV on the Radio's two LPs. I can't remember the name of their first EP, but I had it back home and it was really good too.

How is the thesis coming along? Hope all is well at Queen's, and that yours and Meg's holiday preparations are coming along nicely. You guys headed East any time soon? Any news from Rahul? I hope (and assume) he's enjoying himself at Princeton.

Download LCD Soundsystem's discography when you get a chance. Adios!

Matt.

In the midst of term papers, exam prep, and general apathy for all things Waterloo, these songs still make me smile, move, or hate things slightly less - maybe they'll do the same for you?

A.C Newman - Miracle Drug
Wolf Parade - You are a Runner and I am my Father's Son
The Dresdon Dolls - Good Day
Lovage - Sex (I'm A)
Talking Heads - Psycho-Killer

Shit, how fucking random is that list?
Let's keep it up...
Other randoms: The Black Keys, Brisa Roche, Blonde Redhead?

xox.
